So, the Juers family history is a bit complicated. The further back you go into the 20th century, the murkier the water gets… I guess that’s the same with just about any family. But where there’s even more complication in where they’re buried.
Enter, Calvary II Cemetery 49-02 Laurel Hill Blvd, Woodside, NY 11377
Plot 55/20 N Graves 9 & 10. Both graves are deeded to Leo J Kilgalon, Grave 9 (Deed #535, 12/24/1919), and Grave 10 (Deed #831, 09/16/1920). The Deed’s whereabouts are currentl unknown, though Harry Walter Juers must have had it last, since the last 2 burials there are in 1984 & 1986, Howard McGinley & Helen Juers respectively.
In looking at this headstone, which Stephanie & I visited in 2010 (or maybe 2007), you’ll see this is where many of our Juers ancestors are buried;
- Leo J. Kilgalon, and his wife
- Elizabeth (Libbian Werner) Kilgalon, who was my grandmother Helen’s mother.
- Harry Paul Juers, my grandfather, and his wife
- Helen Malvina McGinley (name not yet inscribed)
- Howard McGinley, Helen’s twin brother (unconfirmed)
- Helen Irene Juers (1933-1937), Harry Paul’s & Helen’s only daughter
- Edwina McGinley, Helen & Howard’s older sister
- Mary Ethel (unsure if Juers or Kilgalon)
Currently, there is a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to cover the approx. $2000 that is owed to the cemetery for maintenance, which would also allow them to add our grandmother Helen & her twin borther Howard to the headstone, which they won’t due until the arrears are paid… if you’re able to donate, thank you in advance, click here to see the fundraising campaign.
More updates as soon as they’re available…
